All participants must pass through the 5km Bald Hill road closure by 8:40am in order to complete the event. For a ‘walker’ this is 70 minutes after the official start. For a runner this is 40 minutes after the official start. The checkpoint must be reached within time or you will be stopped from descending in to Stanwell Park. For example, if you cannot run 8 minutes per kilometre you should not be starting at 8am (it’s the reason we have a 730am walking start!). A race sweeper will be moving at the slowest pace permissible to complete the event and you must keep in front of him at all times.
The 8km race will start in Helensburgh, outside the historic 'Centennial Hotel.' It will continue down the main street of Helensburgh and then out towards Otford Road. The run will then travel down into the rainforest community of Otford before travelling up to 'Bald Hill' and the wonderful views of the South Coast - your 5km aid station is in the car park of the Bald Hill look out for both fluid and aid. From there it will travel down Lawrence Hargreaves Drive, into the surf community of Stanwell Park. It will lead onto the actual Stanwell Park beach and after a gruelling run along the soft sands of the beach; the race will finish in front of the Stanwell Park Surf Club.
The event attracts social runners as well as a family event for members of the Helensburgh/Stanwell Park and wider community. Local residents not taking part in the race will be encouraged to line the streets and cheer on the runners as they pass, showcasing the community spirit of Helensburgh, Otford, Stanwell Park and surrounds.
